Lots of people are fine with the idea of not pooping every day, and let me tell you this is absolutely TOXIC, and nobody wants to be a TOXIC PERSON, RIGHT? š
This is how we should poop:
- Ideally: 3 times per day. After the first poop, it can be normal to have softer stools.
- Good: 2 times per day
- Basic: once per day
- Less than that or pooping hard balls are considered constipation
Here are some consequences of not pooping every day:

Toxins are reabsorbed through the wall of the colon, travel in the bloodstream, and end up in the liver. If this cycle repeats frequently, then your liver is probably overloaded with toxins and cannot keep up with the detoxification process. The excess toxins may cause acne, hormonal imbalances (excess hormones are reabsorbed by the colon), nausea, lack of hunger, and headaches (even migraines). Headaches can be caused by the increased inner pressure against internal organs (because your intestine is full), which contributes to mood swings and fatigue. All these can cause an unbalanced gut flora because toxins are feeding the ābadā microbiota in your gut, which can lead to malabsorption of food, gas, cramps, and⦠more constipation.
If constipation becomes chronic, it can cause hemorrhoids (swell veins in your anus), and these can be bloody painful!
Now that we know the ugly consequences of constipation, letās talk about the possible causes:
- Lack of fiber (I bet you knew that one): not eating enough raw or cooked veggies, fruits, whole grains⦠and/or eating too much animal protein, as well as refined foods.
- Food sensitivities such as gluten, dairy, and grains (these are the most common ones)
- Eating too much chocolate. This is because of the tannins that it contains. Tannins are astringent, which means that they will absorb water from the stools in your colon.
- Dehydration: lack of water has the same effect as tannins. This can happen also when you drink alcohol without proper rehydration.
- Drinking black tea (tannins), green or white tea does not have that effect.
- Medication: pain killers, anxiolytics, antidepressants, antibiotics, chronic use of laxatives, etc.
- Stress: can shut down the production of acid in your stomach, causing gut disturbances that reflects in constipation.
And many more…

My recommendation:
Start your day with a hot herbal tea on empty stomach: this āknocks the doorā of your digestive system to start working. You could also take magnesium (oxide, citrate, chloride) on empty stomach along with the herbal tea. While you do this, RELAX! Take at least 30 minutes to enjoy your tea and be grateful for a new day. This can change your vibes for the day š
Eat more fiber: flaxseeds (ground), chia, psyllium husk with 1 or 2 cups of liquid, and hydrate yourself! At least 2 L of water per day, otherwise the fiber can have the contrary effect.
Avoid eating food that you are sensitive to…or consider a plant-based diet if it becomes chronic. I highly recommend you see a holistic nutritionist to analyze your diet and lifestyle because everything is connected and there are sooo many other things you can do.
Make a good and satisfying poop a normal morning routine! Ideally within one hour after waking up!
